“I own 3 commercially designed forms and not one of them holds a candle to yours.” – Satisfied Rat Trap Ski Profile User
Here’s what this profile does as well or better than any I’ve used:
Fast Adjust for Just About Any XC Ski!
You can quickly and easily adjust the profile to “lock down” a wide variety of ski lengths and flexes (arches). Both the tip and tail profiles come in two parts and run inside their respective channels, so you quickly slide the profiles to the correct position and/or take out the inner profile of each to accommodate the shortest kids skis. Tightening knobs on each channel let you quickly secure the profile for a tight, no flex setup. And the NEW NOTCH CUT profile design holds both flat and convex shaped skis (yes, I’m talking about you, Madshus).

Clear Working Space
The tip and tail profiles have a full-length, durable “sticky-mesh” that “locks down” the ski for great lateral stability –eliminating the need for those super-annoying side clasps or vices. No more banging your knuckles or getting your roto brush cord caught on a knob or whatnot.

Super Sturdy Ski Support
This system provides full, hard support over a sufficient length of the ski to prevent the kind of up-and-down bowing or flexing you get from either vises or profiles that are too short. This gives you a much better platform for hard scraping, brushing, and most importantly, adding structure — you can really lean down on the ski in this profile and it feels snug and secure under you.

Installs with a screwdriver
It requires no tools to install except for a phillips head screwdriver and a flat wooden surface to screw into — I recommend a 2×4 clamped down onto a workshop table. And it takes probably less than 90 seconds to unscrew the whole thing and pack away. The package includes seven “self drilling” (narrow) screws, and the profile and rat trap are all pre-drilled. Also includes installation instructions in case you’re not sure how to best set it up out of the box.

Cheap
Look up other wax profile systems out there. I don’t think you’ll find anything else that comes close to this price. I built it with the goal of making a no-compromises waxing profile for the cheapest possible price — basically, I couldn’t believe the barrier-to-entry to buy a system that makes waxing fast and easy. IF YOU COACH / WORK WITH A HIGH SCHOOL TEAM I THINK THIS IS A GREAT, INEXPENSIVE WAY TO GET THE KIDS INTO WAXING THEIR OWN SKIS. (I usually have 8-12 of these things packed in boxes, so I can fill group orders pretty quick.)

It uses a rat trap
After tinkering with all kinds of different crackpot systems, it finally dawned on me that a big mouse trap would be the perfect mechanism. And, as it turns out, the might Victor company makes one that has a beefy platform, perfect strength spring, and the right diameter bar for locking in the ski binding. It’s almost like they knew how great it would be for binding a ski to a profile. They are good people at the Victor Rat Trap company. Very good people.

If you want to go even lower cost (save on lumber and more expensive shipping) I put together a DIY kit with drawings, plans, and crucial parts. IF YOU HAVE BASIC QUESTIONS ABOUT BUILDING YOUR OWN FROM SCRATCH FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME — I’D BE HAPPY TO TELL YOU WHAT I KNOW. But if you want something with the kinks gone that works out of the box, and probably costs less than what you’ll end up spending on lumber, materials, and specialty items (materials cost me $21/profile right now) then I think you’ll find this is the ticket.
